Order, Service, and Peace in the Storm

Order, Service, and Peace in the Storm

        Readings:
First Reading - Acts of the Apostles 6:1-7
       Responsorial Psalm- Psalm 33:1-2.4-5.18-19
       Gospel Reading - John 6:16-21

The readings from Acts 6:1–7; Psalm 33; and John 6:16–21 reveal a beautiful rhythm of the Christian life: when we serve faithfully, trust God’s order, and fix our eyes on Christ, we experience growth—even in the midst of storms.

In the Gospel of Gospel of John (6:16–21), the disciples find themselves in a difficult situation. It is dark, the sea is rough, and Jesus is not with them. As they struggle against the wind, fear begins to rise.

Then, in the middle of the storm, they see Jesus walking toward them on the water.

At first, they are afraid. But He speaks: “It is I; do not be afraid.”

Immediately, peace replaces fear. The moment they welcome Him into the boat, they reach their destination.

This passage reminds us that storms are part of life—but fear does not have to control us. When Jesus is present, even the most turbulent situations can be transformed. The key is to recognize Him and invite Him into our struggle.

In Acts of the Apostles (6:1–7), the early Church faces a different kind of challenge—not a storm of nature, but a tension within the community. Some widows are being overlooked in the daily distribution, and dissatisfaction begins to grow.

Rather than ignoring the issue, the apostles respond with wisdom. They appoint seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and wisdom, to take care of this responsibility. This allows the apostles to remain focused on prayer and the ministry of the Word.

What follows is powerful:

“The word of God continued to spread, and the number of the disciples increased greatly.”

This teaches us that when there is order, shared responsibility, and faithful service, God brings growth. Everyone has a role to play in the Body of Christ, and no act of service is too small.

Psalm 33 ties these themes together with a reminder of God’s faithfulness:

“The eyes of the Lord are on those who fear Him… to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.”

God sees. God provides. God sustains.

Reflection for Your Life

What “storms” are you currently facing, and are you inviting Jesus into them?

Are you serving faithfully in your community, or waiting for recognition before you act?

Do you trust God enough to let Him bring order into the areas of your life that feel chaotic?

Faith in Action

Invite Jesus into your daily struggles through prayer and trust

Serve where you are, using your gifts to support others

Embrace teamwork and unity in your family, church, or workplace

When Christ is in your boat, no storm can overwhelm you.

And when you serve faithfully, your life becomes part of God’s greater plan.

So today, trust His presence, embrace your role, and move forward in peace—

because God is at work, even in the storm.
