Enough in His Hands: Trusting God to Multiply What You Have

Readings:
First Reading -            Acts of the Apostles 5: 34-52
Responsorial Psalm  - Psalm 27: 1-4. 13-14
Alleluia -                   Matthew 4:4
Gospel Reading -     John 6:1-15

The readings from Acts 5:34–42; Psalm 27; Matthew 4:4; and John 6:1–15 reveal a powerful truth: when we place our trust in God, even the little we have becomes more than enough.

In the Gospel of Gospel of John (6:1–15), we witness the miracle of the feeding of the five thousand. A large crowd follows Jesus, hungry not only for His teaching but also for physical nourishment. Faced with this need, the disciples feel overwhelmed—there is simply not enough food.

Then a small offering is brought forward: five loaves and two fish.

By human standards, it is insignificant. But in the hands of Jesus, it becomes abundance. He gives thanks, distributes the food, and not only is everyone fed—there are leftovers.

This miracle reminds us that God does not ask us for what we do not have—He asks us to surrender what we do have. No matter how small it seems, when offered in faith, God can multiply it beyond our imagination.

The words of Jesus in Gospel of Matthew (4:4) deepen this message:
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

While physical needs matter, our deepest hunger is spiritual. Only God’s Word can truly satisfy the longing of our hearts. When we depend on Him, we are nourished in ways the world cannot provide.

In Acts of the Apostles (5:34–42), we see the apostles facing opposition once again. A wise voice, Gamaliel, advises caution, reminding the council that if this movement is from God, it cannot be stopped.

Despite being flogged and warned, the apostles leave rejoicing—yes, rejoicing—because they were counted worthy to suffer for the name of Jesus. And they do not stop. Day after day, they continue to teach and proclaim the Good News.

This is faith in action: trusting God’s purpose, even in suffering, and remaining faithful no matter the cost.

Psalm 27 brings comfort and assurance in the midst of these challenges:
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?”

When God is our light, fear loses its grip. When He is our strength, we can stand firm, even in uncertainty. The psalm invites us to wait on the Lord with courage and hope.

Reflection for Your Life

  • What “five loaves and two fish” do you have that you may be underestimating?
  • Are you trusting God to provide, or relying only on your own strength?
  • How do you respond when your faith is challenged—do you shrink back or stand firm?

Faith in Action

  • Offer your time, talents, and resources to God, no matter how small they seem
  • Spend time daily in God’s Word, allowing it to nourish your spirit
  • Trust God in difficult situations, knowing that He is working behind the scenes

God specializes in multiplying the little we offer Him.

So don’t wait until you have more—bring what you have now.
Trust His provision, stand firm in faith, and rejoice—
because in God’s hands, what seems small becomes more than enough.
