Obedience Above All: Choosing God Over Fear
Obedience Above All: Choosing God Over Fear
First Reading - Acts of the Apostles 5: 27-33
Responsorial Psalm - Psalm 34: 2. 9.17-20
Alleluia - John 20:29
Gospel Reading - John 3:31-36
The readings from Acts 5:27–33; Psalm 34; and John 3:31–36 present a clear and challenging message: true faith demands obedience to God, even when it is difficult or costly.
In the Gospel of Gospel of John (3:31–36), we are reminded of the authority of Christ. Jesus comes from above, speaks the truth of God, and offers eternal life to all who believe in Him. Yet, the passage also gives a sober warning—to reject the Son is to reject life itself.
Faith, therefore, is not just belief in words; it is a commitment to trust and follow Christ fully.
This truth is lived out powerfully in Acts of the Apostles (5:27–33). The apostles are brought before the authorities and questioned for continuing to preach in the name of Jesus despite being warned not to. Their response is bold and unwavering:
“We must obey God rather than men.”
This is not rebellion—it is faithfulness.
The apostles understand that their mission comes from God, not from human approval. Even in the face of threats and possible death, they refuse to remain silent. Their courage flows from a deep conviction that truth must be proclaimed, no matter the cost.
This challenges us in a very real way.
How often do we compromise our faith to avoid conflict, rejection, or discomfort? It may not always be dramatic, but in small decisions—what we say, how we act, what we stand for—we are constantly choosing between pleasing people and obeying God.
God does not abandon those who remain faithful to Him. Even in trials, He protects, strengthens, and delivers them. Obedience may come with challenges, but it also comes with God’s presence and peace.
This blessing is for us. We may not see Jesus physically, but we are called to trust Him completely—and that trust is proven through our obedience.
Reflection for Your Life
- Are there areas in your life where you are choosing people’s approval over God’s will?
- What fears make it difficult for you to stand firm in your faith?
- Do your actions reflect a true commitment to Christ?
Faith in Action
- Make a conscious decision to obey God, even in small daily choices
- Pray for courage to stand firm in your faith
- Trust that God will be with you, especially in difficult moments
Obedience is the true test of faith.
Like the apostles, you may face pressure, opposition, or misunderstanding. But remember—God’s truth is greater than human opinion.
