They warn us against being deceived by appearances and remind us that God desires not merely outward religious practice, but a heart committed to justice, mercy, and faithfulness. In the first reading (2 Thessalonians 2:1–3, 14–17), Saint Paul encourages the Christians not to become confused or easily shaken concerning the coming of Christ. He warns them not to be deceived by false messages or claims. Instead, Paul reminds them that God has called them through the Gospel to share in the glory of Jesus Christ.
