The Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary: Mary, Queen of Heaven, A Mother Who Leads Us to Christ

The Feast of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary celebrates Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth. This feast invites us not only to honor Mary but also to contemplate the greatness of Christ, her Son, and the unique role God entrusted to her in His plan of salvation.

Mary's queenship is different from earthly royalty. She does not rule through power, wealth, or authority over others. Her crown is one of humility, obedience, love, and service. At the Annunciation, she accepted God's will with the words, "Let it be done to me according to your word." Through that humble "yes," she became the Mother of Jesus, the King of Kings.

Mary remained faithful throughout the life of her Son. She welcomed Him at Bethlehem, cared for Him during His hidden years, followed Him during His public ministry, and stood faithfully at the foot of the Cross. She shared deeply in the sufferings of Christ and remained united with Him even when she could not understand everything that was happening.

Her queenship therefore flows from her intimate union with Christ. Because she is the Mother of Jesus, she has a unique place among God's people. Yet Mary's greatness always points beyond herself to her Son. Like the star that guides travelers toward their destination, Mary leads us toward Jesus.

Mary's life teaches us that true greatness comes through humility. The world often associates greatness with wealth, influence, possessions, and recognition. Mary shows us another way. She was a humble servant who trusted God completely. Her "yes" changed the course of salvation history because she allowed God's will to be accomplished through her.

As Queen, Mary is also a loving mother to the members of Christ's Body. We can turn to her with our joys, fears, struggles, and hopes, trusting in her maternal intercession. She encourages us to remain faithful to Christ and to persevere when the journey becomes difficult.

The Queenship of Mary also challenges us to examine our own hearts. Do I allow God to reign in my life? Am I willing to say yes to His will even when I do not understand it? Do I serve others with humility rather than seeking recognition? Do I turn to Mary as a mother who can lead me closer to Jesus?

Mary teaches us that the way to true greatness is the way of surrender. She became Queen because she first became the humble servant of the Lord.

Prayer

Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth, pray for us. Teach us to imitate your humility, obedience, purity, and love. Help us to surrender our lives completely to God's will and to trust Him even when we cannot understand His plans. Lead our families, our communities, and the whole Church closer to your Son, Jesus Christ.

Queen of Peace, pray for a world wounded by conflict and hatred. Comfort those who are suffering, strengthen those who are discouraged, and guide those who have lost their way. Help us to become instruments of peace, mercy, and love.

Mary, our Mother and Queen, keep us close to Jesus and help us remain faithful to Him until the end of our lives.

Amen.

May the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary remind us that true greatness is found not in power or possessions, but in humble surrender to God, faithful love, and service to others. Through Mary, may we always find our way to Christ, the true King of Heaven and Earth.
