They also reveal the beauty of God's Kingdom, where His people are gathered into one holy community built upon the foundation of the apostles. In the first reading (Revelation 21:9–14), John is shown the heavenly Jerusalem, described as the Bride, the wife of the Lamb. The city shines with God's glory and has twelve gates bearing the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. Its foundations bear the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
