Take Courage: Christ Has Conquered the World

Readings
First Reading - Acts of the Apostles 19:1-8
Responsorial Psalm- Psalm 68:2-7
Alleluia - Colossians 3:1
Gospel Reading - John 16:29-33

The readings from Acts 19:1–8; Psalm 68; Colossians 3:1; and John 16:29–33 remind us that the Christian life is not free from struggles, but through the Holy Spirit and the victory of Christ, we are given strength, courage, and hope.

In the Gospel of Gospel of John (16:29–33), Jesus speaks openly to His disciples about the trials ahead. He tells them that a time is coming when they will be scattered and afraid.

Yet He assures them with one of the most powerful promises in Scripture:

“In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.”

Jesus does not deny the reality of suffering or hardship. Instead, He gives us confidence in the midst of it. Because He has overcome sin, fear, and death, we can face life with hope.

True peace does not come from a life without problems—it comes from knowing Christ is victorious.

In Acts of the Apostles (19:1–8), Saint Paul the Apostle encounters believers in Ephesus who had received only the baptism of John and had not yet heard about the Holy Spirit.

Paul explains the fullness of the Gospel to them, baptizes them in the name of Jesus, and lays hands on them. The Holy Spirit comes upon them, empowering and transforming their lives.

This passage reminds us that Christian faith is not meant to remain partial or incomplete. God desires to fill us with His Spirit so that we may live boldly and faithfully.

Psalm 68 celebrates God’s power and care:

“God arises; His enemies are scattered… the father of orphans and the defender of widows is God.”

The psalm shows both God’s strength and His compassion. He protects, guides, and strengthens His people.

The message from Epistle to the Colossians (3:1) encourages us to:

“Seek what is above, where Christ is.”

When our hearts remain focused on Christ, we gain the perspective and strength needed to face earthly challenges.

Reflection for Your Life

Are you allowing the Holy Spirit to work fully in your life?

What fears or struggles do you need to surrender to Christ?

Do you truly believe that Christ has already conquered the world?

Faith in Action

Pray daily for the guidance and strength of the Holy Spirit

Face challenges with courage and trust in Christ’s victory

Keep your heart focused on heavenly values rather than temporary fears

You are not fighting your battles alone.

Christ has already overcome the darkness of the world, and His Spirit lives within you.

So today, take courage, remain faithful, and walk in hope—

because the victory of Christ is greater than every fear you face.
