First Reading - Acts of the Apostles 18:9-18
Responsorial Psalm- Psalm 47:2-7
Alleluia - Matthew 28:19,20
Gospel Reading - John 16:20-23

The readings from Acts 18:9–18; Psalm 47; Matthew 28:19–20; and John 16:20–23 remind us that God remains with His people in times of fear and difficulty, turning sorrow into joy and strengthening us to continue His mission.

In the Gospel of Gospel of John (16:20–23), Jesus speaks honestly to His disciples about the pain and confusion they are about to experience:

“You will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices.”

But He immediately gives them hope:

“Your sorrow will turn into joy.”

Jesus compares this transformation to a woman giving birth—painful for a time, but leading to new life and deep joy. This teaches us that God can bring hope and renewal even out of suffering and uncertainty.

Many times in life, we may experience seasons of grief, disappointment, or waiting. Yet Christ assures us that sorrow is not the final word. In Him, joy will come again.

This promise becomes visible in Acts of the Apostles (18:9–18). Saint Paul the Apostle faces opposition and difficulty during his mission in Corinth. Yet in the middle of these challenges, the Lord speaks to him in a vision:

“Do not be afraid. Go on speaking, and do not be silent, for I am with you.”

What a powerful encouragement.

God does not promise Paul an easy path, but He promises His presence. Strengthened by this assurance, Paul continues preaching boldly and remains there teaching the word of God.

This passage reminds us that God often speaks courage into our fears. When we feel discouraged or uncertain, He invites us to keep going because He is near.

The mission given in Gospel of Matthew (28:19–20) echoes through these readings:

“Go and make disciples of all nations… and behold, I am with you always.”

The command to evangelize is inseparable from the promise of Christ’s presence.

Psalm 47 joyfully proclaims:

“God is king of all the earth.”

No matter what difficulties arise, God remains sovereign. His reign gives us confidence and hope.

Reflection for Your Life

Are you carrying sorrow, fear, or discouragement that you need to bring to Christ?

Do you trust that God can transform difficult seasons into moments of growth and joy?

Are you continuing your mission faithfully, even when it feels challenging?

Faith in Action

Bring your fears and struggles honestly to God in prayer

Encourage someone who may be discouraged or losing hope

Continue witnessing to your faith with courage and trust

God’s presence changes everything.

Your sorrow is not permanent.

Your struggles are not unnoticed.

And your mission is never carried alone.

So today, take courage, keep speaking truth, and hold onto hope—

because Christ is with you, and He will turn your sorrow into joy.
