Following Christ with Courage in a Resistant World

Readings
First Reading - Acts of the Apostles 16:1-10,
Responsorial Psalm- Psalm 100:1-5,
Alleluia - Colossians 3:1,
Gospel Reading - John 15:18-21

The readings from Acts 16:1–10; Psalm 100; Colossians 3:1; and John 15:18–21 remind us that following Christ is a journey of mission, courage, and faithfulness—even when the world does not understand or accept us.

In the Gospel of Gospel of John (15:18–21), Jesus prepares His disciples for a difficult reality:

“If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first.”

These words may seem hard, but they are deeply honest. To follow Christ means to live by values that often challenge the world—truth instead of compromise, love instead of selfishness, humility instead of pride.

Jesus reminds His disciples that they do not belong to the world because He has chosen them out of it. Their identity is rooted in Him, not in public approval.

This is a call to perseverance. Faithfulness to Christ may sometimes bring misunderstanding, rejection, or opposition, but we are never alone. Christ Himself walked this path before us.

In Acts of the Apostles (16:1–10), we see this courageous discipleship in action. Saint Paul the Apostle begins a new stage of missionary work and invites Timothy to join him.

As they travel, they experience something unexpected: the Holy Spirit prevents them from preaching in certain regions. Instead of forcing their own plans, they remain attentive and obedient to God’s direction.

Then Paul receives a vision of a man from Macedonia calling for help. Immediately, they understand that God is leading them there.

This passage teaches us that God’s guidance may not always follow our expectations, but His direction is always purposeful. The important thing is to remain open and obedient.

Psalm 100 beautifully captures the attitude we are called to have in the midst of this journey:

“Serve the Lord with gladness… Know that the Lord is God.”

Even when discipleship is difficult, joy remains possible because our confidence is in God’s faithfulness.

The message from Epistle to the Colossians (3:1) strengthens this perspective:

“Seek what is above, where Christ is.”

Our hearts and priorities must remain focused on eternal things rather than temporary approval or worldly success.

Reflection for Your Life

Are you willing to follow Christ even when it is unpopular or difficult?

Do you trust God’s guidance when your plans change unexpectedly?

Are you seeking what is above, or becoming too attached to worldly acceptance?

Faith in Action

Stay faithful to your Christian values, even under pressure

Pray for the wisdom to recognize God’s direction in your life

Serve God joyfully, trusting that He is leading you with purpose

You were not called to blend into the world—you were called to follow Christ.

And though the journey may sometimes be challenging, God’s presence goes before you.

So today, walk courageously, listen carefully, and remain faithful—

because the One who calls you will also guide and strengthen you.
