  Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, Virgin A Heart Devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Feast Day: October 16 Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque was a French Visitation nun who became widely known for her devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Born on July 22, 1647, in Burgundy, France, she experienced many difficulties in her early life, including illness and family struggles. Yet through prayer, patience, and perseverance, she grew in her love for Christ. After entering the Visitation Monastery at Paray-le-Monial, she reported receiving mystical visions of Jesus, in which He emphasized His Sacred Heart as a sign of His immense love for humanity. Her mission was to help people understand the depth of Christ's love and encourage devotion to His Sacred Heart. Although she faced misunderstanding and opposition, Saint Margaret Mary remained faithful to her spiritual calling. She died in 1690 and was canonized by Pope Benedict XV in 1920. Born around 1174 into a noble Bavarian family, she became the Duchess of Silesia through her marriage to Henry I. Although she lived among wealth and privilege, she never allowed her position to separate her from the suffering of the poor. Saint Hedwig devoted herself to helping the needy, caring for the sick, supporting religious communities, and promoting peace.
