1. Christ Is Our Peace

In his letter to the Ephesians, Saint Paul reminds us that through Jesus Christ, those who were once far away from God have been brought near by His blood. Christ has broken down the dividing wall of hostility and brought people together through His saving love.

Before encountering Christ, humanity was separated from God by sin and divided by hostility, prejudice, and fear. But through His sacrifice on the Cross, Jesus has made peace and opened the way for reconciliation.

Saint Paul goes further by describing Christ as the cornerstone of a spiritual building. We are no longer strangers or outsiders; we belong to God's household. Together, we are being built into a dwelling place for God through the Holy Spirit.

This message challenges us to examine the divisions in our own lives. Are there people we refuse to forgive? Have we allowed pride, jealousy, tribal differences, or past misunderstandings to create walls between us and others?

Christ did not give His life to keep us divided. He came to reconcile us with God and teach us to live as one family.

Being a Christian means allowing Christ to break down the walls in our hearts. It means choosing forgiveness over bitterness, understanding over prejudice, and peace over unnecessary conflict.

Jesus is our peace. When we allow Him to rule our hearts, we become instruments of reconciliation in our families, communities, and the Church.

2.  Let Us Listen to What the Lord Says

Psalm 85 speaks of God's salvation, peace, and faithful love. The psalmist declares that God speaks peace to His people and that love and faithfulness meet together, while righteousness and peace embrace.

What a beautiful picture of God's desire for humanity!

God does not desire a life ruled by hatred, dishonesty, or endless conflict. He calls us to receive His peace and allow His truth to guide our decisions.

However, biblical peace is more than the absence of arguments. True peace grows where justice is respected, truth is spoken, mercy is practised, and people treat one another with dignity.

Sometimes, we pray for peace while refusing to change the attitudes that create conflict. We ask God to heal our relationships but continue to hold grudges. We desire unity but insist that everything must be done our own way.

Today's psalm invites us to become people who practise the peace we seek.

Let God's Word guide your conversations. Let His mercy influence your judgments. Let His righteousness shape your actions.

When we listen to what the Lord says, our hearts gradually learn the path of peace.

3.  Be Ready for the Coming of the Lord

In Luke's Gospel, Jesus tells His disciples to keep their lamps burning and remain ready for their master's return from a wedding feast.

The servants do not know exactly when their master will arrive, so they must remain alert and faithful in their responsibilities.

Jesus uses this image to teach us about spiritual watchfulness. We do not know the hour when we will meet the Lord, and we should not live as though we have unlimited time to repent, forgive, serve, or follow His will.

Being ready for Christ does not mean living in fear. It means living each day with faith, responsibility, and a heart prepared to welcome Him.

We can prepare for the Lord by praying sincerely, receiving the sacraments, seeking forgiveness, serving those in need, and fulfilling our daily duties with love.

A student prepares by studying. A teacher prepares by teaching faithfully. A parent prepares by caring for the family. A worker prepares by being honest and diligent. Every ordinary responsibility can become an offering to God when performed with love.

Jesus also gives a remarkable promise: the master who finds his servants ready will have them recline at table and will serve them. This reveals the generosity and humility of the Lord. The One we are waiting to welcome is also the One who lovingly welcomes and serves His faithful people.

Do not wait until tomorrow to begin living faithfully. The best preparation for meeting Christ is to walk with Him today.

4. What Is God Saying to Us Today?

Today's readings invite us to build our lives on Christ and remain spiritually prepared.

  • Make Christ your foundation: Build your decisions, relationships, and hopes on His truth.

  • Become a peacemaker: Seek reconciliation where possible and refuse to fuel hatred or division.

  • Listen to God's Word: Let Scripture shape your conscience and guide your actions.

  • Remain spiritually awake: Do not allow distractions, sin, or worldly concerns to make you forget your relationship with God.

  • Be faithful in small things: Serve God through your daily responsibilities, even when nobody notices.

  • Live ready to meet the Lord: Make time for prayer, repentance, charity, and the sacraments.

We sometimes imagine that holiness requires extraordinary achievements. Yet the Lord often asks us to be faithful in ordinary moments: speaking kindly, telling the truth, forgiving an offence, helping someone in need, or choosing what is right when nobody is watching.

These small acts of faithfulness keep the lamp of our hearts burning.

5. A Prayer for Peace and Watchfulness

Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing me near to You through Jesus Christ. Thank You for breaking down the walls of sin and hostility and making me a member of Your household.

Lord Jesus, You are my peace and the cornerstone of my life. Remove from my heart every form of hatred, pride, resentment, and division. Teach me to forgive, to seek reconciliation, and to treat others with compassion and respect.

Holy Spirit, build me into a dwelling place worthy of Your presence. Guide my words, purify my intentions, and help me become an instrument of Your peace in my family, workplace, community, and Church.

Lord Jesus, keep the lamp of my faith burning. Do not allow me to become careless about my spiritual life or postpone the good You are calling me to do today.

Give me a watchful heart, a faithful spirit, and the wisdom to use every day as an opportunity to love and serve You.

May I be found faithful whenever You call me into Your presence, ready to welcome You with joy rather than fear.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

6. Personal Reflection Question

If the Lord came to meet me today, would He find me living in peace, serving faithfully, and ready to welcome Him?

Take a few moments today to identify one relationship that needs peace and one spiritual habit you need to strengthen.

Today's Reminder

Build your life on Christ, become a messenger of peace, and keep your spiritual lamp burning. We do not know when the Lord will come, but we can choose to live faithfully and lovingly today.
