1. Called to Share the Mystery of Christ
In his letter to the Ephesians, Saint Paul speaks about the special grace God gave him to proclaim the mystery of Christ. Through Jesus, God's saving plan is revealed not to one group of people alone, but to all nations. who believe in Christ are called to share in the same promise and become members of His one body.
This reminds us that God's love is greater than the boundaries we sometimes create. No one is beyond the reach of His mercy, and no one should be treated as unworthy of hearing the Gospel.
Saint Paul understood that his mission was a gift entrusted to him. He did not regard his calling as an opportunity for personal glory but as a responsibility to serve God's people.
We, too, have received gifts, opportunities, knowledge, and responsibilities from God. Our calling may be different from Paul's, but each of us can contribute to God's work through our daily lives.
A parent can teach children to love God. A teacher can guide students with patience and integrity. A worker can demonstrate honesty. A friend can offer encouragement to someone who is discouraged. Through these ordinary actions, we can help others encounter Christ.
God has entrusted each of us with something valuable. The question is whether we are using it to serve His purpose and bless others.
2. The Lord Is My Strength and My Song
Isaiah 12 is a song of thanksgiving and confidence in God's salvation. The prophet declares that God is his strength and song, and that he will trust in Him without fear.
This message is especially meaningful when we face uncertainty. There are seasons when our prayers seem unanswered, our plans do not succeed, or the future feels unclear. In such moments, fear can easily weaken our confidence in God.
Yet the prophet reminds us that the Lord is our strength. Our security does not depend entirely on our abilities, possessions, achievements, or the approval of others. It rests ultimately in God, who remains faithful.
The psalm also invites us to make God's deeds known among the nations. Gratitude should not remain hidden in our hearts; it should inspire us to speak of His goodness and live in a way that reflects His love.
When God strengthens us, we can encourage the weak. When He comforts us, we can comfort others. When He forgives us, we can extend forgiveness.
Let your life become a song of thanksgiving, even in difficult seasons. Trust God, draw strength from Him, and allow your faith to become a source of hope for others.
3. Are You Ready When the Master Comes?
In Luke's Gospel, Jesus teaches His disciples to remain watchful and faithful because they do not know when the master will return.
He compares His coming to the unexpected arrival of a thief, emphasising that His disciples must not become careless or assume they have unlimited time to prepare.
Jesus then describes a faithful and wise steward who is entrusted with the responsibility of caring for the master's household. The steward is expected to carry out his duties faithfully, whether or not the master is present.
This teaching challenges us to examine how we are living today.
Sometimes, we postpone important spiritual decisions. We tell ourselves that we will pray more seriously later, forgive someone tomorrow, abandon a sinful habit when we are older, or begin serving God when life becomes easier.
But tomorrow is not guaranteed. The time we have today is a gift, and God calls us to use it wisely.
Being ready for the Lord does not mean living in constant fear of death or the end of the world. It means living each day with a heart that is prepared to meet Him through faith, repentance, love, and faithful service.
Jesus also teaches that responsibility brings accountability. The steward who knows his master's will and deliberately neglects it is held accountable for his actions.
This reminds us that the more we have received, the more carefully we must use it. Knowledge of God's Word, leadership positions, professional abilities, material resources, and opportunities to help others are gifts that come with responsibility.
Parents must care for their children. Teachers must guide their students responsibly. Leaders must serve rather than exploit those entrusted to them. Christians must practise the faith they profess.
God does not call us merely to possess gifts; He calls us to use them faithfully.
The important question is not when the Lord will come, but whether He will find us faithful when He does.
4. What Is God Saying to Us Today?
Today's readings invite us to become faithful servants who live with confidence in God and responsibility toward others.
- Use your gifts for God's glory: Do not bury your abilities or use them only for personal gain. Find ways to serve others.
- Live without unnecessary fear: Remember that the Lord is your strength and salvation.
- Remain spiritually watchful: Make prayer, Scripture, repentance, and the sacraments part of your life.
- Be faithful in ordinary duties: Do your work honestly, care for your family, and treat others with respect.
- Use your knowledge responsibly: The more you understand God's will, the greater your responsibility to put it into practice.
- Do not postpone conversion: If you need to forgive, apologise, change a habit, or return to God, begin today.
We sometimes think that preparing for the Lord requires extraordinary actions. Yet readiness is often demonstrated through simple acts of faithfulness: telling the truth, keeping our promises, helping someone in need, refusing dishonesty, and choosing love when selfishness would be easier.
Every day gives us another opportunity to serve God well.
5. A Prayer for Faithful Service and Spiritual Readiness
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of life and for the many blessings You have entrusted to me.
Thank You for the grace to know Jesus Christ and for the opportunity to share in Your saving plan. Help me to recognise that my abilities, time, resources, and responsibilities are gifts to be used according to Your will.
Lord Jesus, teach me to remain watchful and faithful. Deliver me from spiritual laziness, carelessness, and the habit of postponing the changes You ask me to make.
When fear and uncertainty trouble me, remind me that You are my strength and salvation. Give me a trusting heart that remains faithful even when I do not understand the future.
Holy Spirit, guide me in my daily responsibilities. Help me to serve with humility, work with honesty, lead with compassion, and love without expecting recognition.
Forgive me for the times I have neglected the duties entrusted to me or used Your gifts selfishly. Give me the courage to begin again and the wisdom to live each day well.
May I never become so distracted by worldly concerns that I forget my eternal calling. When You come to meet me, may You find me faithful, loving, prayerful, and ready to welcome You.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
6. Personal Reflection Question
If the Lord examined how I am using my time, talents, knowledge, and responsibilities today, would He find me to be a faithful steward?
Take a few moments to identify one responsibility you have neglected and one practical step you can take today to fulfil it faithfully.
Today's Reminder
God has entrusted you with gifts and responsibilities. Use them wisely, serve others faithfully, and keep your heart ready for the Lord. We may not know when He will come, but we can choose to be faithful today.
