Called by God to Bear Fruit Readings First Reading - Jeremiah 1:1. 4-10 Responsorial Psalm- Psalm 71:1-6. 15. 17 Gospel Reading - Matthew 13:1-9 Today's readings remind us that God knows each of us personally, calls us for a purpose, and desires that our hearts become fertile soil where His Word can take root and bear abundant fruit. In the first reading (Jeremiah 1:1, 4–10), the Lord calls the young Jeremiah to be His prophet. God says, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I consecrated you." Jeremiah feels inadequate because of his youth, but God reassures him: "Do not be afraid... for I am with you to deliver you." The Lord touches Jeremiah's mouth and places His words upon his lips, giving him the courage and authority to proclaim His message.
