Come to Jesus and Find True Rest

Readings
First Reading - Isaiah 26:7-9. 12. 16-19
Responsorial Psalm- Psalm 102: 13-21
Alleluia - Matthew 11:28
Gospel Reading - Matthew 11:28-30

Today's readings offer a message of hope for all who are weary, burdened, or waiting on the Lord. They remind us that God is faithful to His people, hears the prayers of those who seek Him, and offers true peace and rest through His Son, Jesus Christ.

In the first reading (Isaiah 26:7–9, 12, 16–19), the prophet expresses a deep longing for God. He declares that the path of the righteous is made straight by the Lord and that his soul yearns for God both day and night. Even in times of suffering, the people continue to seek the Lord because they know that lasting peace comes from Him alone.

Isaiah also proclaims a beautiful message of hope: "Your dead shall live, their bodies shall rise." These words point beyond present suffering to God's promise of new life. They foreshadow the resurrection that is fulfilled in Jesus Christ, assuring us that God has the final victory over sin and death.

The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 102:13–21) celebrates God's compassion and faithfulness. The psalmist is confident that the Lord hears the cries of the afflicted and will restore His people. God is never indifferent to our suffering. He sees our struggles, listens to our prayers, and acts according to His perfect wisdom and love.

The Gospel Acclamation (Matthew 11:28) invites us with Jesus' comforting words: "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest." This is one of the most reassuring invitations in the Gospel. Jesus does not promise a life without difficulties, but He promises His presence, strength, and peace to those who come to Him.

In the Gospel (Matthew 11:28–30), Jesus extends His loving invitation to everyone who is weary. He says, "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble of heart, and you will find rest for your souls." In Jesus' time, a yoke joined two animals together to share a load. By inviting us to take His yoke, Jesus is asking us to walk with Him. He does not leave us to carry life's burdens alone. When we unite our lives with His, our burdens become lighter because He gives us the grace to bear them.

True rest is not simply the absence of problems. It is the peace that comes from trusting God, knowing that He is with us in every circumstance. Whether we carry burdens of grief, illness, financial worries, family struggles, or spiritual dryness, Jesus invites us to place them in His hands.

Lessons for Daily Life

Seek God daily, especially during times of difficulty and uncertainty.

Trust that the Lord hears every sincere prayer and never abandons His people.

Bring your burdens to Jesus instead of trying to carry them alone.

Learn from Christ's gentleness, humility, and patience in your relationships with others.

Live each day with hope, trusting in God's promise of eternal life.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for being my refuge and my strength. When I grow weary or discouraged, help me to turn to Jesus, who offers true rest for my soul. Teach me to walk with Him in humility, patience, and trust. Strengthen my faith, renew my hope, and give me the peace that only You can give. May I always rest securely in Your loving care. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
