Saints Joachim and Anne, Parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary: Faithful Parents and Models of Christian Family Life


Saints Joachim and Anne hold a special place in the life of the Church as the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the grandparents of Jesus according to His human nature. Although Sacred Scripture tells us little about them, Christian tradition honors them as a holy couple whose faith, patience, and trust in God prepared the way for the coming of the Savior. Their lives remind us that God's greatest works often begin in the quiet faithfulness of family life.

According to tradition, Joachim and Anne longed for a child for many years and endured the sorrow of infertility with steadfast hope. Instead of giving in to despair, they remained faithful in prayer and trusted in God's providence. In His perfect time, God blessed them with Mary, who would become the Mother of Jesus.
