Do Not Be Afraid: God Calls, Strengthens, and Remains with Us

Readings
First Reading - Isaiah 6:1-8
Responsorial Psalm- Psalm 93:1-2. 5
Alleluia  - 1 Peter 4:14
Gospel Reading  - Matthew 10:24-33

Today's readings reveal the holiness of God, the dignity of our calling, and the courage needed to remain faithful to Christ. When God calls us, He also purifies us, strengthens us, and assures us of His constant presence.

In the first reading (Isaiah 6:1–8), the prophet Isaiah receives a magnificent vision of the Lord seated on His heavenly throne. The seraphim cry out, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory." Faced with God's holiness, Isaiah becomes aware of his own sinfulness and cries, "Woe is me! I am a man of unclean lips." Yet God does not reject him. Instead, a seraph touches his lips with a burning coal, symbolizing purification and forgiveness. When the Lord asks, "Whom shall I send?" Isaiah responds with generous faith: "Here I am; send me!"

Isaiah's experience reminds us that God does not call only the perfect. He first cleanses, heals, and equips those He chooses. Our weaknesses are never obstacles when we place ourselves in His hands.

The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 93:1–2, 5) proclaims the majesty and eternal kingship of God. The Lord reigns forever, His throne is firmly established, and His promises are trustworthy. In a world filled with uncertainty and change, God remains constant, faithful, and worthy of our complete confidence.

The Gospel Acclamation (1 Peter 4:14) encourages us: "If you are insulted for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of God rests upon you." Faithfulness to Christ may bring opposition, but it also brings the presence and blessing of the Holy Spirit.

In the Gospel (Matthew 10:24–33), Jesus prepares His disciples for the cost of following Him. He tells them not to fear those who can harm the body but cannot destroy the soul. Instead, they should place their trust completely in God, who lovingly watches over every detail of their lives. Jesus reminds them that not even a sparrow falls to the ground without the Father's knowledge and that "even the hairs of your head are all counted." These words reveal God's intimate care for each one of us.

Jesus concludes with a solemn promise: "Everyone who acknowledges me before others, I also will acknowledge before my Father in heaven." Our faith is not meant to remain hidden. We are called to witness to Christ through our words, our actions, and our daily choices, even when doing so requires courage.

Lessons for Daily Life

Stand in awe of God's holiness and approach Him with humility.

Trust that God can purify and use you despite your weaknesses.

Do not allow fear of people or circumstances to weaken your faith.

Remember that God knows you personally and cares for every detail of your life.

Courageously acknowledge Christ in your words, actions, and decisions.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are holy, mighty, and worthy of all praise. Purify my heart as You purified Isaiah, and give me the courage to answer Your call with a willing spirit. Remove every fear that keeps me from witnessing to Christ. Fill me with the Holy Spirit so that I may remain faithful in every trial and confidently proclaim the Gospel. May I always trust in Your loving care and joyfully say, "Here I am, Lord; send me." Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
