The readings from Acts 8:5–8, 14–17; Psalm 66; 1 Peter 3:15–18; and John 14:15–21 reveal a beautiful promise at the center of the Christian life: God does not leave us alone—He comes to dwell within us through His Spirit, strengthening us to love, to endure, and to witness to the world.
In the Gospel of Gospel of John (14:15–21), Jesus tells His disciples:
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”
Love for Christ is shown not merely in words or emotions, but in faithful living. Yet Jesus knows that His followers will need help, guidance, and strength. So He promises:
“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you always.”
This Advocate is the Holy Spirit—the Spirit of truth—who remains with believers and lives within them. Jesus assures His disciples:
“I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.”
What a comforting promise. No matter what challenges we face, we are never abandoned. God’s presence remains with us, guiding and sustaining us from within.
This promise becomes visible in Acts of the Apostles (8:5–8, 14–17). Philip the Evangelist preaches in Samaria, and many people receive the word of God with joy. Lives are changed, healings take place, and hope spreads through the city.
Later, Saint Peter the Apostle and John the Apostle come and pray for the new believers to receive the Holy Spirit. Through the laying on of hands, the Spirit is given, strengthening the community in faith.
This moment reminds us that Christian life is not just about believing intellectually—it is about receiving the living presence of God.
Psalm 66 echoes with gratitude and praise:
“Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.”
The psalmist invites everyone to testify to what God has done. A life touched by God cannot remain silent.
The message continues in First Epistle of Peter (3:15–18), where believers are encouraged to:
“Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope.”
Even in suffering or opposition, Christians are called to witness with gentleness, courage, and integrity, just as Christ suffered for righteousness.
