Turning Hearts to the Living God: Guided by the Spirit

Readings
First Reading - Acts of the Apostles 14:5-18
Responsorial Psalm- Psalm 115:1-4. 15-16
Alleluia - John 14:26
Gospel Reading  - John 14:21-26

The readings from Acts 14:5–18; Psalm 115; and John 14:21–26 reveal a vital truth for our faith: God alone is worthy of our worship, and through the Holy Spirit, He guides us to live in truth and love.

In the Gospel of Gospel of John (14:21–26), Jesus speaks about love and obedience:

“Whoever has my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me.”

Love for Christ is not just expressed in words—it is lived out through obedience. And Jesus does not leave us to do this on our own. He promises the gift of the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, who will teach us and remind us of everything He has said.

This means we are not alone in our journey. The Holy Spirit guides, strengthens, and helps us remain faithful, even when it is difficult.

In Acts of the Apostles (14:5–18), we see Saint Paul the Apostle and Barnabas carrying out their mission. After healing a man who was crippled, the people are amazed and begin to treat them as gods.

But Paul and Barnabas immediately reject this praise. They tear their garments and cry out:

“We are of the same nature as you, human beings. We bring you good news, that you should turn from these idols to the living God.”

Their response is a powerful reminder that all glory belongs to God alone. They refuse to take credit for what God has done and instead redirect the people to the true source of power.

Psalm 115 echoes this same truth:

“Not to us, Lord, not to us, but to your name give the glory.”

It also contrasts the living God with lifeless idols—things made by human hands that cannot see, hear, or act. In contrast, our God is alive, active, and present in our lives.

Reflection for Your Life

Are there “idols” in your life—things you rely on more than God?

Do your actions reflect genuine love for Christ through obedience?

Are you open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit in your daily decisions?

Faith in Action

Give glory to God in all things, recognizing Him as the source of every blessing

Listen to the Holy Spirit through prayer and reflection

Let your love for Christ be visible in how you live and treat others

God alone is worthy of your trust, your love, and your worship.

And He has not left you alone—He has given you His Spirit to guide you every step of the way.

So today, turn your heart fully to Him, walk in obedience, and rely on His Spirit—

because in the living God, you find truth, strength, and life.
