Called to Holiness and Courageous Discipleship

“Called to Holiness and Courageous Discipleship”

Readings
First Reading - 1 Peter 1:10-16,
Responsorial Psalm- Psalm 98:1-4,
Alleluia - Matthew 11:25,
Gospel Reading - Mark 10:28-31

Today’s readings invite us to trust deeply in God’s plan, live in holiness, and follow Christ with generous hearts.

In the First Letter of Peter, First Epistle of Peter we hear how the prophets longed to understand the salvation that would later be revealed through Christ. The angels themselves look upon this mystery with wonder. Saint Peter then gives a powerful instruction: “Be holy, for I am holy.” God does not only call us to admire holiness; He calls us to live it daily through our thoughts, words, and actions.

The Psalm rejoices in the saving power of God. Psalms proclaims that the Lord has done marvelous deeds and revealed His justice to all nations. This is a reminder that God is still working miracles in our lives, even in quiet and hidden ways. Every answered prayer, every moment of strength during hardship, and every act of mercy is part of His marvelous work.

In the Gospel according to Gospel of Mark, Peter tells Jesus that the disciples have left everything to follow Him. Jesus responds with a promise: whoever sacrifices for His sake will receive blessings both now and in eternal life. Yet He also warns that discipleship includes trials and persecutions. Following Christ is not always easy, but it is always fruitful.

Jesus also says:

“Many who are first will be last, and the last first.”

This teaches humility. God does not judge greatness the way the world does. The humble, faithful, and obedient heart is precious before Him.

Lessons from the Readings

God has prepared a beautiful plan of salvation for us.

Holiness is a daily calling, not only for saints but for every believer.

True discipleship requires sacrifice and trust.

What we give up for Christ is never lost.

Humility opens the door to God’s blessings.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, help me to live a holy life worthy of Your calling. Give me the courage to follow You completely, even when sacrifice is difficult. Teach me humility, obedience, and trust in Your promises. May my life proclaim Your marvelous deeds to the world. Amen.
