As a bishop, theologian, and martyr, Saint Irenaeus devoted his life to defending the Gospel, promoting unity in the Church, and leading people to the saving truth of Jesus Christ. Born in the second century in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey), Irenaeus had the privilege of learning from Saint Polycarp, who himself had been a disciple of Saint John the Apostle.
