In the first reading from First Book of Kings, the prophet Elijah encounters a poor widow in Zarephath during a severe famine. The widow has only a handful of flour and a little oil left—barely enough for one final meal for herself and her son. Yet Elijah asks her to provide food for him first, promising that God will not abandon her. Despite her poverty and uncertainty, the widow responds with remarkable faith. She trusts God's word spoken through Elijah and shares what little she has. As a result, the flour jar does not go empty, nor does the oil jug run dry. God rewards her faith and generosity...
