Standing Firm in Faith and Wisdom

Readings
First Reading - Jude 1:17. 20-25
Responsorial Psalm- Psalm 63:2-6
Alleluia - Colossians 3:16. 17
Gospel Reading - Mark 11:27-33

Today’s readings encourage us to remain spiritually strong, rooted in God’s love, and guided by wisdom in a world filled with doubt and confusion. Through the words of Saint Jude and the teachings of Jesus Christ, we are reminded that faith requires perseverance, discernment, and trust in God’s truth.

In the first reading, Jude urges believers to remain faithful and build themselves up in their “most holy faith.” He encourages them to pray in the Holy Spirit, remain in God’s love, and wait patiently for the mercy of Christ that leads to eternal life.

These instructions are deeply important for every Christian. Faith is not something that grows automatically; it must be nourished daily. Prayer, Scripture, worship, and obedience help strengthen our relationship with God. Without spiritual nourishment, our hearts can easily become weak, distracted, or discouraged.

Jude also speaks about showing mercy and helping those who struggle in faith. This reminds us that Christianity is not only about personal holiness but also about caring for others spiritually. Some people around us may feel lost, doubtful, wounded, or far from God. Instead of condemning them, we are called to encourage, guide, and pray for them with compassion.

The reading ends with a beautiful reminder of God’s power and faithfulness: He is able to keep us from falling and present us blameless before His glory. What a comforting truth! We are not saved by our own strength alone. God Himself sustains and protects those who trust in Him.

The Psalm expresses a deep longing for God: “My soul is thirsting for You, O Lord my God.” True fulfillment cannot be found in possessions, status, pleasure, or worldly success alone. The human heart was created for God, and only His presence can truly satisfy our deepest desires.

Many people spend their lives searching for peace and happiness in temporary things, yet continue feeling empty. The Psalm reminds us that intimacy with God brings lasting joy and strength. When we seek Him sincerely, our souls become renewed and refreshed.

The verse from Colossians encourages believers to let the word of Christ dwell richly within them and to do everything in the name of the Lord. God’s Word should shape not only our prayers but also our attitudes, relationships, decisions, and daily actions.

In the Gospel, the religious leaders question Jesus about His authority. Instead of answering directly, Jesus asks them about the baptism of John the Baptist. The leaders become trapped by their own pride and fear because they are more concerned about public opinion than sincere truth.

This Gospel reveals how pride and stubbornness can blind people spiritually. The religious leaders were unwilling to open their hearts to God’s truth because they were attached to their own authority and reputation.

Sometimes we can behave similarly. We may resist correction, ignore God’s guidance, or refuse to change because of pride, fear, or attachment to our own ways. True wisdom requires humility—the willingness to listen, learn, and surrender to God’s truth even when it challenges us.

Jesus teaches us that genuine faith is not about appearances or public image but about sincere openness to God.

Today’s readings call us to remain spiritually awake, rooted in prayer, and humble before God. They remind us that God’s grace is powerful enough to sustain us through every challenge. We are invited to seek Him wholeheartedly and allow His Word to transform our lives from within.

May we continue building our faith daily, trusting God’s guidance, and walking in humility and truth.

Reflection Questions:

Am I intentionally nourishing my faith through prayer and God’s Word?

Are there areas of pride or stubbornness preventing me from listening to God?

How can I encourage and strengthen others in their faith journey?

Prayer:

Lord God, keep me rooted in Your love and strengthen my faith each day. Help me remain humble, teachable, and open to Your truth. Remove pride, fear, and doubt from my heart, and fill me with wisdom and courage. Teach me to encourage others with compassion and to live always for Your glory. Amen.
