Love Me More: Following Christ with Faithful Hearts

Readings
First Reading - Acts of the Apostles 25:13-21
Responsorial Psalm- Psalm 103:1-2. 11-12. 19-20
Alleluia - John 14:26
Gospel Reading - John 21:15-19

Today’s readings invite us to reflect on love, forgiveness, and the deep personal call to follow Jesus Christ wholeheartedly. Through the witness of Saint Paul and the touching conversation between Jesus and Peter, we are reminded that God does not define us by our failures but by His mercy and the love we are willing to offer in return.

In the first reading from the Acts of the Apostles, Paul once again stands accused before powerful leaders. Governor Festus explains Paul’s case to King Agrippa, revealing that the accusations against Paul were not about crimes but about his faith in Jesus and the proclamation that Christ is alive.

Paul’s situation teaches us that true discipleship often brings misunderstanding and opposition. The world may not always understand those who live according to faith, truth, and the Gospel. Yet Paul remained steadfast because his hope was rooted in the risen Christ.

Many times, we may feel discouraged when our values, beliefs, or commitment to God are questioned. But Paul’s courage reminds us that our faith is worth defending. Christianity is not merely a tradition or routine; it is a living relationship with Jesus, who conquered death and continues to guide His people.

The Psalm overflows with gratitude for God’s mercy and compassion. “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our sins from us.” These words reveal the incredible depth of God’s forgiveness. He does not hold our failures against us when we sincerely repent and return to Him.

So often, people struggle to forgive themselves for past mistakes, weaknesses, or sins. Yet God’s mercy is greater than our failures. He desires not to condemn us but to restore us. The Psalm invites us to bless the Lord continually because His love is faithful and enduring.

The Gospel presents one of the most beautiful and emotional encounters after the Resurrection. Jesus asks Peter three times, “Do you love Me?” This moment is deeply significant because Peter had denied Jesus three times during the Passion. Rather than condemning Peter, Jesus gives him an opportunity to reaffirm his love and be restored.

This reveals the heart of Christ. God does not abandon us because of our failures. Instead, He calls us back to Himself with mercy and love. Peter’s past denial did not disqualify him from his mission. In fact, Jesus entrusted him with even greater responsibility: “Feed my sheep.”

Every Christian is called to love Christ not only through words but through actions. Loving Jesus means caring for others, serving faithfully, forgiving generously, and remaining obedient even when it is difficult.

Jesus also tells Peter that following Him will involve sacrifice. True love for Christ requires surrender. It means trusting God even when the path is uncertain or challenging. Discipleship is not always comfortable, but it leads to eternal life and deeper union with God.

One powerful lesson from today’s Gospel is that our relationship with Jesus is personal. Christ asks each of us the same question He asked Peter: “Do you love Me?” This question reaches beyond religious activities or outward appearances. It challenges the condition of our hearts.

Do we truly love God above everything else? Do our daily choices reflect that love? Are we willing to follow Him faithfully even when it costs us something?

Today’s readings remind us that God’s mercy is always available, His love is constant, and His call remains active in our lives. No failure is too great for His forgiveness, and no weakness is beyond His power to transform.

May we respond to Jesus with sincere hearts and renewed commitment, saying like Peter: “Lord, You know everything; You know that I love You.”

Reflection Questions:

How do I show my love for Jesus in my daily life?

Is there an area of failure or weakness I need to surrender to God’s mercy?

Am I willing to follow Christ faithfully even when the journey becomes difficult?

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your endless mercy and love. When I fall, lift me up again and help me never lose hope in Your forgiveness. Teach me to love You sincerely through my words, actions, and daily choices. Give me the courage to follow You faithfully and to care for others with compassion and humility. May my life always reflect my love for You. Amen.
