Anchored in Truth: Standing Firm and Seeking What Truly Lasts

  Readings:
First Reading - Acts of the Apostles 6:8-15
    Responsorial Psalm- Psalm 119:23-24. 26-27. 29-30
    Alleluia - Matthew 4:4
    Gospel Reading -  John 6:22-29

The readings from Acts 6:8–15; Psalm 119; Matthew 4:4; and John 6:22–29 invite us into a deeper understanding of faith: to stand firm in truth, to be nourished by God’s Word, and to seek what truly endures.

In the Gospel of Gospel of John (6:22–29), the crowd searches for Jesus after witnessing the miracle of the loaves. When they find Him, Jesus gently challenges their motivation:

“You are looking for me not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill.”

They were focused on physical satisfaction, not spiritual transformation.

Jesus redirects them with a powerful truth:

“Do not work for food that perishes, but for the food that endures for eternal life.”

This is a call to shift our priorities. So often, we chase temporary things—success, comfort, material needs—while neglecting what truly nourishes the soul. When they ask what they must do, Jesus gives a simple yet profound answer:

“This is the work of God, that you believe in the One He has sent.”

Faith is not about striving endlessly—it begins with trusting in Christ.

This message is echoed in Gospel of Matthew (4:4):

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

Our deepest hunger is spiritual, and only God’s Word can truly satisfy it.

In Acts of the Apostles (6:8–15), we meet Saint Stephen, a man full of grace and power, performing great wonders among the people. Yet, instead of admiration, he faces opposition, false accusations, and hostility.

Despite this, Stephen stands firm.

Even when confronted by those who twist his words and challenge his faith, his face shines “like the face of an angel.” This is the peace and strength that come from being anchored in God’s truth. He does not defend himself with fear, but with quiet confidence rooted in his relationship with God.

Psalm 119 beautifully expresses this same devotion:

“Your decrees are my delight; they are my counselors.”

God’s Word is not just instruction—it is guidance, comfort, and strength. When we hold onto it, we are not easily shaken by challenges or opposition.

Reflection for Your Life

What are you truly seeking—temporary satisfaction or lasting spiritual nourishment?

Are you rooted in God’s Word enough to stand firm when your faith is challenged?

Do your daily choices reflect a hunger for God or for the things of the world?

Faith in Action

Make time daily to read and meditate on Scripture

Choose truth, even when it is difficult or unpopular

Trust in Christ, knowing that He is your true source of life

Faith is not just about receiving—it is about standing, trusting, and seeking what truly matters.

Like Stephen, you may face challenges. Like the crowd, you may be tempted to focus on temporary needs. But God is calling you higher—to a life grounded in truth and sustained by His Word.

So today, seek what endures, stand firm in faith, and live with purpose—

because only what is rooted in God will truly last.
