It becomes much more difficult when we are called to love someone who has hurt us, rejected us, spoken against us, or treated us unfairly. Yet today's Gospel takes us beyond ordinary human love. Jesus calls us to love our enemies, bless those who curse us, pray for those who mistreat us, and forgive those who hurt us. This is not weakness. It is the radical love of Christ. The first reading warns that knowledge without love can produce pride. The Psalm invites God to search our hearts. The Gospel acclamation reminds us that love is the evidence of God's presence.
