They also remind us that receiving God's Word requires an open heart, because God's truth may challenge our comfort, pride, and expectations. In the first reading (1 Corinthians 2:1–5), Saint Paul tells the Corinthians that when he came to them, he did not rely on impressive speech or human wisdom. Instead, he proclaimed Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Paul's message was centered on Christ, not on himself. His goal was that the faith of the people would rest on God's power rather than human wisdom. This is an important lesson for our own lives.
