His life reminds us that Christian service is not about status or recognition but about seeing Christ in those who are most vulnerable. As a deacon, Saint Lawrence was entrusted with caring for the Church's material goods and distributing assistance to the poor. During a time of persecution, the authorities demanded that he hand over the treasures of the Church. Lawrence gathered the poor, the sick, widows, orphans, and those in need and presented them, saying in effect that these were the Church's true treasures. Born in Germany in 1891 into a Jewish family, Edith was gifted with a brilliant intellect and became a distinguished philosopher. For a period of her life, she described herself as an atheist. Yet her sincere search for truth eventually led her to Jesus Christ and transformed the direction of her life. After her conversion to Catholicism, Edith was baptized and later entered the Carmelite Order, taking the religious name Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. Born into a noble family in Italy in 1480, he could have lived a life of comfort and privilege. Instead, he chose to dedicate his life to God and to the service of His people. Ordained a priest, Cajetan became known for his deep prayer life, compassion for the poor, and desire to renew the spiritual life of the Church. At a time when many people suffered from poverty and the Church needed reform, Saint Cajetan responded with faith and action. Together with other devoted priests, he founded the Theatine Order, a community dedicated to living the Gospel with simplicity, holiness, and complete dependence on God's providence.
