His journey from captive slave to devoted bishop reveals how faith can change the direction of a life and impact an entire nation.  From Captivity to Conversion Patrick was born in Britain in the late 4th century into a Christian family. As a teenager, however, he did not take his faith very seriously. His life changed dramatically when he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken to Ireland as a slave.
