Sent as Light: Living the Mission of Christ

Readings
First Reading - Acts of the Apostles 12:24-13:5
Responsorial Psalm- Psalm 67:2-3.5-6.8
Alleluia - John 8:12
Gospel Reading - John 12:44-50

The readings from Acts 12:24–13:5; Psalm 67; and John 12:44–50 reveal a clear and compelling truth: those who encounter Christ are not only transformed—they are sent to shine His light to the world.

In the Gospel of Gospel of John (12:44–50), Jesus proclaims:

“Whoever believes in me believes not only in me but also in the One who sent me… I came into the world as light, so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness.”

Christ is the Light that reveals truth, dispels darkness, and leads us into life. To believe in Him is to step out of confusion, fear, and sin into clarity, hope, and purpose.

But this light is not meant to be hidden. It is meant to be carried.

In Acts of the Apostles (12:24–13:5), we see the early Church stepping into this mission. As the community prays and fasts, the Holy Spirit speaks, setting apart Barnabas and Saint Paul the Apostle for a special work.

They are not chosen randomly—they are sent intentionally.

With prayer, laying on of hands, and trust in God, they begin their missionary journey, carrying the message of Christ beyond familiar boundaries. This moment marks a shift: the Church moves from gathering to going, from receiving to sharing.

It is a reminder that faith is never meant to stay in one place. When we encounter Christ, we are called to go where He sends us, even if it is uncomfortable or unknown.

Psalm 67 beautifully echoes this universal mission:

“May God bless us… that your way may be known upon earth, your saving power among all nations.”

God’s blessings are not meant to stop with us—they are meant to flow through us to others. We are blessed to be a blessing.

Reflection for Your Life

Are you living in the light of Christ, or are there areas of darkness you need to surrender?

Do you see your faith as personal comfort, or as a mission to share?

Where might God be calling you to go or to serve?

Faith in Action

Allow Christ’s light to guide your daily decisions and actions

Be open to the Holy Spirit’s direction, even when it leads you out of your comfort zone

Share God’s love through your words, kindness, and service

You are not just called to believe—you are called to shine.

The same Spirit that sent the apostles is at work in you. The same light that came into the world now lives within you.

So today, walk in that light, follow His call, and go with courage—

because you are sent to bring Christ to the world.
