No One Outside the Fold: The Shepherd Who Calls All

Readings
First Reading - Acts of the Apostles 11:1-18
Responsorial Psalm- Psalm 42:2-3;43:3-4
Alleluia - John 10:14
Gospel Reading - John 10:11-18

The readings from Acts 11:1–18; Psalm 42–43; and John 10:11–18 reveal a powerful and liberating truth: God’s love is not limited—and the Good Shepherd calls everyone into His fold.

In the Gospel of Gospel of John (10:11–18), Jesus proclaims:

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”

This is not just a title—it is a mission of love. Jesus does not lead from a distance; He sacrifices Himself for His flock. He knows His sheep intimately, and they know His voice.

But then He says something even more striking:

“I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead… and there will be one flock, one shepherd.”

This reveals the heart of God’s plan—a universal invitation. No one is excluded. Christ came not just for a few, but for all.

This truth unfolds beautifully in Acts of the Apostles (11:1–18). Saint Peter the Apostle faces criticism for associating with Gentiles—those considered outsiders by the early Jewish believers.

But Peter recounts a vision and a powerful experience: God shows him that what He has made clean must not be called unclean. When Peter witnesses the Holy Spirit being poured out on the Gentiles, he realizes something profound:

God shows no partiality.

The same Spirit, the same grace, the same salvation is offered to all.

At the end, the believers respond with awe:

“Then God has granted life-giving repentance even to the Gentiles.”

This moment marks a turning point in the Church—the boundaries are widened, and the mission expands.

Psalm 42–43 captures the deep longing of the human heart:

“As the deer longs for streams of water, so my soul longs for you, O God.”

This longing is universal. Every heart, no matter where it comes from, is searching for God. And God, in His mercy, responds to that longing by drawing all people to Himself.

Reflection for Your Life

Do you truly believe that God’s love is for everyone—including those who are different from you?

Are there “boundaries” in your heart that God is asking you to break down?

Do you recognize yourself as part of one flock under one Shepherd?

Faith in Action

Treat others with love and openness, regardless of background or status

Let go of judgments that limit how you see God working in others

Share the message of Christ with those who may feel excluded or distant

The Good Shepherd knows every sheep—and He is calling all.

You are part of His flock, not because of who you are, but because of His love and grace.

So today, open your heart wider, love more deeply, and follow more faithfully—

because in Christ, there is one flock and one Shepherd.
