Born from Above: Living Boldly in the Power of the Spirit
First Reading - Acts 4:23-31
Responsorial Psalm- Psalm 2:1-9
Alleluia - Colossians 3:1
Gospel Reading - John 3:1-8
The readings from Acts 4:23–31; Psalm 2; Colossians 3:1; and John 3:1–8 draw us into a deep spiritual truth: the Christian life is not just about believing—it is about being transformed and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
In the Gospel of Gospel of John (3:1–8), we encounter Nicodemus, a man searching for truth. He comes to Jesus at night, perhaps unsure, perhaps cautious. Jesus speaks to him of something radical:
“Unless one is born from above, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Nicodemus is confused. How can someone be born again?
Jesus explains that this new birth is not physical, but spiritual—a rebirth through water and the Spirit. Just as the wind blows where it wills, so it is with those born of the Spirit. You may not see it, but you can feel its power and witness its effects.
This reminds us that faith is not just external—it must be internal, alive, and Spirit-filled. It is not enough to know about God; we must be renewed by Him.
In Acts of the Apostles (4:23–31), the early believers demonstrate what it means to live this Spirit-filled life. After facing threats and opposition, they gather—not to complain or retreat—but to pray.
Their prayer is not timid; it is bold.
They acknowledge God’s power, recall His promises, and ask for courage to continue proclaiming His word. And God responds powerfully—the place where they are gathered shakes, and they are all filled with the Holy Spirit, speaking the word of God with boldness.
This is the mark of those who are truly “born from above”:
they do not shrink back in fear—they rise in courage.
Psalm 2 reminds us why we can be confident:
Even when nations rage and opposition rises, God remains sovereign. Nothing can overthrow His plan. This gives us the assurance that no matter what we face, God is in control.
In Epistle to the Colossians (3:1), we are given a clear direction:
“Seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.”
To be born again means to shift our focus—from earthly distractions to heavenly purpose, from temporary concerns to eternal truths.
Reflection for Your Life
Are you living a spiritually renewed life, or just going through religious routines?
Do you seek God first, or are you consumed by earthly worries?
When faced with challenges, do you respond with fear or with prayer and boldness?
Faith in Action
Invite the Holy Spirit to renew your heart daily
Spend time in prayer, especially when facing difficulties
Speak about your faith with courage, trusting in God’s power
To be born of the Spirit is to live differently—boldly, purposefully, and faithfully.
Like Nicodemus, you may still be seeking. Like the early believers, you may face challenges. But one thing is certain:
God is ready to fill you, guide you, and strengthen you.
So today, rise above fear, seek what is eternal, and live as one who is truly born from above.
