Let Your Light Shine: Faith That Is Lived, Not Hidden
Let Your Light Shine: Faith That Is Lived, Not Hidden
Readings:
Responsorial Psalm- Psalm 112:4–8
Second Reading - 1 Corinthians 2:1–5
Alleluia - John 8:12
Gospel Reading - Matthew 5:13–16
Today’s readings call us beyond words and appearances into a faith that is visible, humble, and life-giving. They remind us that the light of Christ shines most brightly when it is lived through love, service, and trust in God.
True Worship Becomes Compassion
In Isaiah 58, God speaks clearly about what pleases Him: sharing bread with the hungry, welcoming the homeless, clothing the naked, and caring for one’s own. Faith that remains only in ritual or speech is incomplete. God desires mercy lived out in concrete action.
When we choose compassion, God promises that “your light shall break forth like the dawn.” Light is born where love is practiced.
Light for the Upright
Psalm 112 describes the person who fears the Lord and lives generously. Such a person becomes “a light in the darkness for the upright.” Their confidence is not rooted in wealth or power, but in righteousness and trust in God.
This Psalm assures us that a life anchored in God naturally reflects His light—quietly, steadily, and without fear.
Power Made Perfect in Humility
In 1 Corinthians, Paul reminds the community that his preaching did not rely on impressive speech or human wisdom. Instead, he came in weakness, allowing God’s power to be revealed through faith.
True Christian witness does not point to the self—it points to Christ. When we rely on God rather than our abilities, His light shines through us more clearly.
Christ, the Light of the World
Jesus declares in John 8:12: “I am the light of the world.” To follow Him is to walk in light, not darkness. This light is not meant to be admired from a distance—it is meant to be followed and shared.
In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus tells His disciples: “You are the light of the world… let your light shine before others.” We do not create the light; we reflect the Light we receive from Christ.
Living as Salt and Light
These readings challenge us to ask:
Does my faith show itself in love and compassion?
Do my actions reflect Christ’s light to others?
Am I relying on God’s power or my own strength?
Being salt and light means living with integrity, kindness, and courage—so that others may glorify God through what they see in us.
Closing Prayer
Lord Jesus, You are the Light of the world.
Shine through our words, actions, and choices.
Help us live a faith that serves, loves, and reflects You,
so that others may see Your goodness and give glory to God.
Amen.
