Inviting God Into the Ordinary Moments.

Inviting God Into the Ordinary Moments.

Many of us are tempted to think that God only moves in the big, dramatic moments—when the healing comes, the door opens, or the breakthrough finally arrives. But the truth is, God is just as present in the everyday, ordinary moments of life: in quiet kitchens, crowded commutes, laundry piles, and afternoon walks. He’s not waiting for us to reach a spiritual mountaintop to meet us—He wants to be welcomed into the mundane and the simple, too.

Inviting God into the ordinary transforms the ordinary into sacred. When we learn to see Him in the day-to-day, our faith becomes more than a Sunday experience—it becomes a lifestyle.

1. The Beauty of the Everyday

God isn’t limited to sanctuaries or special occasions. Jesus spent much of His time in ordinary places—on boats, in homes, walking dusty roads. He met people at wells, dinner tables, and work sites. That shows us something powerful: God values the ordinary because He delights in relationship, not performance.

“Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” — 1 Corinthians 10:31

Even your routine—eating breakfast, folding clothes, going to work—can become a place of worship when your heart is tuned toward Him.

2. What It Means to Invite God In

Inviting God into your ordinary moments isn’t about adding more spiritual tasks to your to-do list. It’s about awareness and invitation.

  • It’s whispering a prayer while brushing your teeth.

  • It’s thanking Him for your kids’ laughter or a moment of stillness.

  • It’s asking, “Lord, what are You saying in this?” even when nothing extraordinary is happening.

It’s choosing to believe that God is here, right now, and welcoming Him into every space of your day.

3. Practicing the Presence of God

Brother Lawrence, a humble monk from the 1600s, is known for his writings on “practicing the presence of God.” He found deep joy in sensing God while doing the most menial tasks—especially in the kitchen.

He once wrote:

“We ought not to be weary of doing little things for the love of God… it is not the greatness of the work but the love with which it is performed.”

That mindset shifts everything. A mundane task becomes meaningful when done with love and awareness of God’s presence.

4. How to Invite God Into the Ordinary

Here are a few simple ways to begin:

  • Start with Surrender:
Before the day begins, pray: “God, this is Your day. I invite You into every detail.”

  • Set Reminders:
Use alarms or sticky notes to remind yourself to pause and acknowledge God throughout the day.

  • Talk with God All Day:
Prayer doesn't have to be long or fancy. Just talk to Him like a friend.
    “Lord, help me focus.”
“Thank You for this quiet moment.”
    “Give me patience right now.”

  • Notice the Little Gifts:
A breeze, a smile, a warm meal—recognizing these as gifts from God cultivates gratitude and awareness.

  • Make Transitions Sacred:
Driving to work, walking to the next meeting, or preparing dinner? Use those moments to realign your heart:
“Holy Spirit, go with me into this next thing.”

5. Why This Matters

When you invite God into your ordinary life, several things happen:

  • You grow in intimacy with Him. He becomes more than a distant deity—you experience Him as a present Father.

  • You find peace in chaos. When you’re aware of His presence, anxiety loses its grip.

  • You reflect His nature in all you do. People will sense something different in how you move through life.

And perhaps most importantly, you begin to live with joy and contentment, even when nothing "special" is happening—because God is near.

Final Thoughts: Your Everyday is Holy Ground

God doesn’t need a platform or a performance to move. He just wants an invitation. Whether you’re doing dishes, answering emails, caring for children, or sitting in traffic—those moments can be infused with His peace, presence, and power.

Don’t wait for the “big” moments to connect with God. He’s already with you in the small ones.
